In this episode, I interview Henry Kacprzyk, curator of Reptiles and Kids Kingdom at The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. We discuss his exciting 38 year career at the zoo working his way up from keeper to curator.
Henry talks about his early beginnings in the 80's during the zoo's transition from old victorian style exhibits to more naturalistic. We then discuss his early days as a Big Cat keeper and why he prefers working tigers over lions. He then talks about the zoo's groundbreaking breeding programs and how they are helping to save endangered cats like the Amur Leopard. Other fun topics include his humorous outlook on being a midwife for a giraffe, his "dream" exhibit, and advice on anyone who wants to pursue a career in the zoo world.
