In this episode, I have a sit-down Q & A session with wildlife rehabilitator, Mady Rothchild, from Animals In Distress Association. Mady has been working with native, North American wildlife for over 33 years. We answer submitted wildlife questions and talk about animals that live in our own backyards. Topics include what to do if you find a baby bird, raccoons as pets, badgers and if they are a threat to humans and pets, encounters with snakes, and how to coexist with animals in our backyards.

Episode #32: The Cheetah Whisperer

In this episode, I interview Erin Vargo, "The Cheetah Whisperer". Erin has been obsessed with cheetahs her whole life and has worked with over 70 individual cats. We discuss her first encounters with cheetahs volunteering for The Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia. We then dive into her work training a cheetah cub named "David" at The Wildlife Safari Park in Oregon. We end our discussion talking about her current seasonal position at The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in the Animal Programs Department. Other fun topics include feeding baby warthogs, meeting Jack Hanna, and a terrifying baboon encounter!

Episode #31: 38 Years At The Pittsburgh Zoo

In this episode, I interview Henry Kacprzyk, curator of Reptiles and Kids Kingdom at The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. We discuss his exciting 38 year career at the zoo working his way up from keeper to curator.

Henry talks about his early beginnings in the 80's during the zoo's transition from old victorian style exhibits to more naturalistic. We then discuss his early days as a Big Cat keeper and why he prefers working tigers over lions. He then talks about the zoo's groundbreaking breeding programs and how they are helping to save endangered cats like the Amur Leopard. Other fun topics include his humorous outlook on being a midwife for a giraffe, his "dream" exhibit, and advice on anyone who wants to pursue a career in the zoo world.

In this episode, I interview award-winning author and conservationist Carl Safina. He's the author of seven books and his latest, Beyond Words: How Animals Think and Feel is a New York Times Bestseller. In the book, Carl shares extraordinary stories of animals and their consciousness, self-awareness and empathy and their similarities to humans. 

We discuss Carl's early beginnings and what led him to become an author. We then dive into the book's three focal point animals: Elephants, Wolves, and Killer Whales.
