In this episode, I interview famous herpetologist, photographer, author, lecturer, and TV personality, Mark O’Shea. Mark’s been working with reptiles and traveling the world for over five decades, We begin discussing Mark’s early childhood and his first encounter with a snake. We then dive into his extensive work with venomous snakes, including two close encounters, one of which almost took his life. We then discuss his path to television and his adventures around the world.

Episode #46 Penguins & Elephant Seals

In this interview, I talk to Camille Le Guen who is currently finishing up her PHD work on African Penguins and the effects of overfishing. We discuss her early beginnings studying the Little Blue Penguins in Australia. We then cover her experience living on South Georgia Island (north of Antartica) studying penguins and elephant seals. We finish up with her current work with the endangered African Penguins in South Africa.

Episode #43: Urban Caracal Project

In this episode, I interview Dr. Laurel Serieys, the founder of The Urban Caracal Project, a unique study currently looking at the effects of urbanization on caracal populations in South Africa. We begin discussing Dr. Serieys work with bobcats and cougars in Los Angeles and how that led her to Africa. We then dive into the elusive life of the caracal and how they adapt to life in the city, including the habit of preying on pets, in particular domestic cats. We end the discussion on how people can learn to co-exist with caracals and other wildlife.

We discuss Africa's lesser known felines and what the trust is doing to help raise awareness about these small cats. In particular we talk about the African Black-footed Cat, the smallest and rarest of the African cats. Episode #41: Elephants with Dr. Cynthia Moss

In this episode, I sit down with one of the world's most famous elephant researchers, Dr. Cynthia Moss. Dr. Moss has been studying wild elephants in Africa for over 40 years. In 1972, Dr. Moss started the Amboseli Elephant Research Project, the longest running study of elephants to date. In this interview, we discuss elephant behavior, intelligence, social structure, empathy, and current threats they face in the wild. Other topics include the famous elephant "Echo", Dr. Moss's favorite elephant encounter, and advice for young researchers wanting to pursue a similar career path.
