We discuss her early beginnings studying the Little Blue Penguins in Australia. We then cover her experience living on South Georgia Island (north of Antartica) studying penguins and elephant seals. We finish up with her current work with the endangered African Penguins in South Africa.

Animals to the MAX is back and all-new just in time for Halloween with “Batman”, Joe D’Angeli. Joe has been working with bats for over 25 years and currently runs the WILD Life Conservation and Education Center home to over 40 bats in Garfield, New Jersey. We discuss Joe’s early passion for bats and how that led him to acquire his first one 25 years ago. Joe also covers common misconceptions people have about bats and the benefits they provide. Other topics include bat intelligence, husbandry, and how he’s preparing for the biggest night of his life, speaking at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Episode #43: Urban Caracal Project

In this episode, I interview Dr. Laurel Serieys, the founder of The Urban Caracal Project, a unique study currently looking at the effects of urbanization on caracal populations in South Africa. We begin discussing Dr. Serieys work with bobcats and cougars in Los Angeles and how that led her to Africa. We then dive into the elusive life of the caracal and how they adapt to life in the city, including the habit of preying on pets, in particular domestic cats. We end the discussion on how people can learn to co-exist with caracals and other wildlife.

We discuss Africa's lesser known felines and what the trust is doing to help raise awareness about these small cats. In particular we talk about the African Black-footed Cat, the smallest and rarest of the African cats.
